People often wonder what I was like in high school; they actually ask me if I did change. And truthfully I never had the best high school story, but I changed for the better. I moved from so many schools and repeated high school that I only finished my HSC in 2013. When I was younger in year 3, I was very quiet I never really spoke, or made myself known like I do today. I had friends but they weren’t the friends that actually acknowledged me as their friend, they were the ugly fake kind. At the time I thought I actually had friends, until they turned their backs on me one day at school.
After year 3 finished I moved schools to an all-girls private school, as much as I still know the people who went to that school when I was there, I still see them around where I live. This is one of the reasons why I want to leave the area that
I currently live in and move to the city. Being the new kid at a school isn’t always the easiest thing, especially when I was shy and quiet. I had my hair super short it was pretty much a boy’s haircut, so as the days went by of being there I started to feel alone, isolated and used. I was pretty much the bait of their games, constantly picked on so that I actually started to fake being sick. At the end of the year for year four, I had 150 days off school.
However looking back at what happened to me at a young age, I wouldn’t swap my life with anyone else. As much as it’s a painful past I learnt a lot from the experiences. I’ll admit that it did bring on some bad habits but if I didn’t go through what I did, I wouldn’t be the person that I am today. In life we have both good and bad experiences; each of those experiences we have shouldn’t be tossed to the side. Instead we should actually look at them and learn from what happened, if you keep thinking that it’s a bad event then of course it will turn into a bad memory. If you can flip your thinking around and say, “alright this wasn’t the best ideal situation, and didn’t go well but that’s life” you’ll eventually let go of the negative emotions that are connected to that memory.
I only just learnt this technique recently. It was only through talking and learning that I learnt to flip the thinking of my mind.
